We dance 10 – 12 dances in an evening out of a total repertoire of 60 dances (reels, strathspeys and jigs).

This gives us time to walk through dances, particularly unfamiliar ones, and to socialise. Our dance range is broader than say London (formerly Wandsworth) Reels yet narrower than the RSCDS. Many of our dances are commonly danced elsewhere at Balls across the UK.

We also dance the standards, such as the Duke of Perth and The Reel of the 51st Division particularly when an evening is just before an up-coming Ball that includes them.

Typical Little Ship favourites are:
The Belle of Bon Accord   The Reel of the 51st Division
Napier’s Index   The Robertson Rant
JB Milne   Seton’s Ceilidh Band
Mairi’s Wedding   Shiftin’ Bobbins
The Montgomeries’ Rant   A Trip to Bavaria
Pelorus Jack   The Wind on Loch Fyne

Each season we like to try a few “unfamiliar” ones. Presently these include:
The Aviator   The Dream Catcher
The Elephant's Stampede   The Bon Viveur

How good a dancer do you have to be?
We welcome new members.

  • We are relaxed regarding issues of footwork and place more emphasis on moving through the formations and patterns.
  • We allow time for all dancers unfamiliar with the patterns to walk through dances.
  • You do not need to bring a partner unless you feel more comfortable with one, as we encourage mixing – no dance is specified nor booked up in advance.
